Papallacta Pass (La Virgen)
Begins at 3900 MASL and winds up to to 4200 MASL (4590 ft) where communication antennas abound. This is protected by the Cayambe-Coca Reserve and is also the beginning of a Trek that goes down to Papallacta where there is another entrance to this reserve. The high altitude birds are tame and can be a great place to take pictures if the weather permits.
The typical birds found here are the Rufous-bellied Seedsnipe, the Bar-winged Cinclodes, the Stout-billed Cinclodes, the Many-striped Canastero, the Variable Hawk, and the Tawny Antpitta. If you go down to the lakes it is also possible to see the Yellow-billed Pintail, the Andean Teal, and the Andean Gull.
